CYCLING
David Houghton has been a cyclist since he could first straddle a bike. He has twice finished first in the prestigious Ontario Cup series, has two second-place finishes at the 24 Hours of Adrenalin and was a silver medallist in the 2004 Subaru Duathlon Series. David has also won medals at the Alpha Giant 5, the BikeNXS Season Final, the Gary Fisher Enduro and a number of other mountain bike races.
David spent the first four months of 2005 participating in the Tour d'Afrique, the longest annual bicycle race in the world. The trip covered 12,000 kilometres, ten countries, and a multitude of challenges. David is currently at work on a book about the experience. In the meantime, you can read David’s weblog. MUSIC David Houghton is also known for his work as percussionist with Cowboy Junkies. He has toured with the group throughout North America and Europe and, for the past fifteen years, has designed all of the group's CD covers and merchandise. David has also performed and recorded with Jane Siberry, Melanie Doane, Daniel Lanois and many other Canadian artists. As a session drummer and percussionist, he has played on dozens of albums, TV themes and movie scores. ART As an art director and graphic designer, David has won over 100 awards for creativity from nearly every international show, including the One Show, the Clios, Cannes Advertising Festival, New York Festivals, London International Advertising Awards and the Advertising & Design Club of Canada. His work has been featured in Graphis, Archive, Zoo Magazine and Communication Arts. He is currently a member of the teaching faculty at the Ontario College of Art & Design in Toronto. |
